Back to school means back to stress for many people, which leads to breakouts. Pushing your skincare routine to the side may be tempting as you get busy with school work this fall, but trust us when we tell you that it’s a bad habit to start. While you’re stocking up on notepads, pens, backpacks, and other supplies for your dorm room, be sure to stock up on proper products so that your skincare routine is just as solid as your scholastic one.

Serums

Adjusting to a new school year can stress you and your skin out, potentially leading to serious breakouts. Stay one step ahead by using a facial serum that targets uneven skin texture and excess oil so you can focus on the fun, social aspects of school.

Cleansers

It’s important to always be gentle with your skin so start each morning and end each day by washing your face with a gentle facial cleanser. Wash your face with a gentle, low pH cleanser. Why low pH? Simply put, because low pH cleansers leave your skin’s natural moisture barrier intact. The moisture barrier holds moisture in skin and keeps breakout-causing bacteria and redness-causing irritants out, ultimately reducing the need for more specialized skincare to treat dryness, acne, or sensitivity.

Moisturizers

Using a moisturizer that includes sunscreen is incredibly important. If you want to have healthy skin you need to stay hydrated and protected from the sun’s harmful rays. Be sure to use a good quality moisturizer that isn’t too oily. After washing your face, both in the AM and PM, hold off on towel drying. Instead, apply your moisturizer to damp skin to help lock in hydration. When it comes to picking out a moisturizer, look for one that’s formulated for your skin type.

Take your diet into consideration!

Did you know that what you eat could affect your skin? It’s true! High glycemic foods, like pizza and sugary foods, cause blood sugar levels to spike, which is linked to acne breakouts. Aim to instead eat more fresh fruits, vegetables and proteins that are high in healthy fats and simple carbs. Not only is it better for your body overall, being more conscious about what you’re putting in your mouth will help you to avoid breakouts and keep your skin looking fresh and radiant. Also, make sure you’re drinking enough water, too! Water helps to hydrate your skin and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
