Chemical Peel

Chemical peels offered at Orlando Dermatology Center use a chemical solution to shed damaged skin and reveal smoother, less wrinkled skin. Learn how the procedure works, recovery time, results, and aftercare.

Chemical peels are among the cosmetic services offered at Orlando Dermatology Center's locations in Oviedo and Waterford Lakes.

Chemical peels can enhance skin appearance through a treatment where a chemical solution is applied, causing the skin to blister and eventually shed. The newly revealed skin typically appears smoother and less wrinkled.

Physicians apply alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), trichloroacetic acid (TCA), or phenol during chemical peel treatments.

Preparation and Procedure

On treatment day, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed. For deep peels, general anesthesia is administered in a surgical setting. Your dermatologist applies the peel quickly and evenly, monitoring timing carefully. Deep peels are treated section by section to minimize effects on heart and lungs.

Post-peel, skin receives appropriate care. Medium peel patients may use cool compresses and soothing lotions. Deep peel patients receive surgical dressings for the resulting wound.

What must I do after getting a chemical peel?

All professional chemical peels require at-home aftercare. Dr. Blatnoy ensures post-procedure instructions are clear.

Is there downtime?

Medium and deep peels involve recovery time. Deep chemical peels typically require 2-3 weeks home recuperation.

When will I see the results?

Results appear after healing, which ranges from 1 day for refreshing peels to 14+ days for deep peels. Refreshing or lunchtime peels may require 3-5 treatments for desired results.

Are chemical peels painful?

Patients typically experience mild stinging during light or medium peels. Physicians may prescribe mild pain relievers post-procedure.

Who can perform a chemical peel?

Chemical peels should only be administered by well-trained professionals, as the chemicals can be harmful. Estheticians at Orlando Dermatology Center are specifically trained to safely deliver results.
